The setup of Panchakarma Department of the College and in the Hospital as per MSR 2016.
Panchkarma
Panchkarma is basically a bio- cleaning regimen, which facilitates the body system for better bioavailability of pharmacological therapies, besides achieving homeostasis of humorous (Doshas). It also increases the acceptability of body to various Dietary regimes and use of Rejuvenation therapy (Rasayana) for promotive health as well as for therapeutic regimens. These therapies help in the elimination of Diseases Causing factors and maintain the equilibrium of body (Dhatus) and humours (Doshas) to normalcy.
Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Raktamokshana these are five types of Panchakarma.
Vamana
This is the process used to cure Kapha doshas. It purifies the chest and the stomach by inducing medical emesis. Waste products and toxins (vitiated dosha)are thus eliminated through the upper gastrointestinal tract.
Virechana
This is the process used to eliminate excess Pitta from the body. It purifies blood, by clearing the toxins from the body, along with the lower alimentary canal, by induced controlled purgation with the help of medicines.
Basti
This is the process used to cure the Vata disorders. In this procedure, a medicated oil enema is applied through the rectum. This is because vata is predominantly located in the colon.
Nasya
Administration of Medicated Medicine through nasal route by scientific method is known as Nasya. Nose is the nearest root of Head hence the diseases related to the head is best treated by this procedure. Shira is site of Mastishka, Pancha Dnyanendriya and Strotsa. Nasa is connected to the Brain through cribriform plate of ethmoid bone hence the medicine given through Nasal reaches directly to the brain. The vitiated Doshas in the region of head and Malas are excreted through this route. Hence Nasya is the best treatment for UrdharvaJatrugataVikara.
Raktamokhana
In Panchakarma Ratktamoksha is very effective therapy with lowest cost procedure as comparative other procedure. Raktamokshana is specially used in Rakta and Pitta predominate Dosha’s Diseases.
Out of this Shirodhara, Shirobasti, Mukhalepha, Katibasti, Janubasti, Pindaseda, Agnikarma and so on like procedure are done in Panchkarma.
Importance’s of Panchakarma:
दोषाः कदाचित् कुप्यन्ति जितालङ्घनपाचनैः ।
जिताः संशोधनैर्येतुनतेषांपुनरुद्भवः ॥
च. सू.१६/२०.
Dosha’s is pacified by Shamana Chikitsa, it may become vitiated again due to improper Ahar-Vihar etc. But Doshas are removed by Shodhana therapy, it does not re-occur, Hence Panchakarma is major part of the Kayachikitsa.
Benefits of Shodhana:
दोषाणां च द्रुमाणां च मूलेऽनुपहतेसति ।
रोगाणांप्रसवानां च गतानामागतिर्ध्रुवा ॥
च. सू. १६/२१
When Tree’s roots are not destroyed properly, in rainy season it germinates & develops ultimately into a tree, Similarly as Dosha’s are not removed properly, Disease cannot be cured Completely.
